Professor Shigeharu Ueki, MD, PhD

Professor Ueki focuses on understanding the pathophysiology of allergic and eosinophilic inflammatory diseases. His work includes ongoing research in various diseases such as asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis.

Professor Shigeharu Ueki, MD, PhD

Professor in the Department of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Laboratory Medicine, Akita University Graduate School of Medicine, Akita

Akita, Japan

Professor Shigeharu Ueki is a Professor in the Department of General Internal Medicine and Clinical Laboratory Medicine at the Akita University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan. His research centres on the pathophysiological roles of eosinophils, with a particular focus on their application in clinical testing of allergic and eosinophilic inflammatory diseases.

Professor Ueki has made significant contributions to the field by identifying active cytolytic eosinophil cell death, which leads to the release of eosinophil extracellular traps. His ongoing research is broadening to encompass various diseases, including asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis, chronic allergic keratoconjunctivitis, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis/mycosis and more.

Professor Ueki is a dedicated member of many professional societies including, the International Eosinophil Society, the Japanese Society of Allergology and the Japanese Respiratory Society. His contributions to research also include editorial positions at the following journals: Allergology International, ERJ Open Research, Journal of Leukocyte Biology and Frontiers in Allergy.
