Professor Rabe’s research interests focus on large clinical trials in COPD and asthma, the mechanisms of airway inflammation, early determinants of lung health and the pathophysiological links between respiratory and cardiovascular disease.

Professor Klaus Rabe is a Professor of Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Kiel and Director of the Department of Pneumology, LungenClinic Grosshansdorf, Germany. He also serves as Vice Chairman of the German Center for Lung Research, is a Fellow and Past President of the European Respiratory Society and Past President of the German Chest Society.

Professor Rabe’s research encompasses several fields of respiratory medicine, including asthma, COPD and lung cancer. He has been involved in many major COPD trials, such as studies on phosphodiesterase inhibitors and biologics, including IL-33 inhibitors, for asthma and COPD. Professor Rabe’s research investigates the mechanisms of airway inflammation, early determinants of lung health and the pathophysiological links between respiratory and cardiovascular disease.

Professor Rabe is widely published on both asthma and COPD, and is currently on the editorial board for the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and a past Chief Editor of the European Respiratory Journal. He has also served on several committees for the Global Initiative for Asthma and the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease.
